Mexicos tourist industry takes a dive after swine flu outbreak
The travel ban to Mexico, put in place over the recent Swine flu panic, has been lifted in the UK. now the ban has been lifted in Mexico, people in the UK are being allowed to go back in after the virus seems to appear weaker that we thought it was. 60 people across the world have died of Swine Flu, with over 7,500 being infected. Which is a percentage of 0.8%. Though the World Health Organisation’s alert level remains on five out of 6, fearing that the world is on the brink of another pandemic similar to the SARs virus. Malta’s ban on travelling to Mexico is still on, ever though there is yet to be a confirmed cases come from the country
Britains Foreign office has warned for travellers to be wary though, and follow advice to avoid contracting the disease. Earlier in the week 263 cases had been confirmed within Europe, the 14 new ones being reported in Britain. twenty one new cases have also sprung up in Japan, though they have had no contact with anyone with the virus or travelled abroad recently. This brings the total number of cases in Japan to just 250, which also includes the first case in Tokyo. Most of the infections have occured in the western city of Kobe and Osaka -Japan’s second biggest urban city after Tokyo.
Although travel to Mexico is once again being allowed, the fear of contracting the disease has crippled their tourism, with tourist destinations, nightclubs and restaurants all reported being completely empty, whcih is not what the Mexican government needed as the whole world is right in the middle of a recession. Tourism experts are saying Mexico’s industry wont recover in time for the key summer season, which is when most people come down to Mexico.
