Ways To Reduce Night Sweats And Sleep Disturbances

Night sweats and are common symptoms of menopause. A night sweat is the same as a hot flash but it occurs at night while you are sleeping. Often times, the sweating is more severe than a regular hot flash. Many women find that suddenly they are awake in the middle of the night to find their pajamas, sheets and pillow drenched with sweat.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) will help to lessen the symptoms of night sweats and sleep disturbances (insomnia). However, not every woman is a good candidate for HRT. As a result, it is important for you and your doctor to find alternative ways to manage night sweats and sleep disturbances. Discuss your symptoms with your doctor and check with her prior to beginning alternative treatments.

Below are some tips that I got  from Rhonda Cravey who writes at Bella Online – The Voice of Women, which is an excellent resource for women.

• Use cotton sheets on your bed. The cotton will allow air to flow around your skin better than other fabrics. Cotton will also effectively absorb the moisture from the night sweat.
• Turn the temperature down on your thermostat. The room you are sleeping in needs to remain at a cool temperature. (I keep my on cold – which is hard on the electric bill during summers in Texas)
• Layer the covers on your bed. Ideally, you should have a sheet, light blanket, and heavy blanket. You can remove and add the covers as needed.
• Wear lightweight, cool clothes when sleeping. Avoid flannel pajamas and long night gowns.
• Take a cool shower prior to going to bed.
• Don’t drink caffeinated beverages right before you go to bed. The caffeine will make it difficult for you to go to sleep and stay asleep.
• Avoid alcoholic drinks prior to bedtime. You may fall asleep quickly but the alcohol will make it difficult for you to stay asleep.
• Avoid eating immediately prior to going to bed.
• Avoid exercising right before you go to bed. Exercising will increase your metabolism making it difficult for you to go to sleep.
• Try some relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation.
• Create and follow a bedtime routine. You might try reading or writing in a journal.
• Follow a diet with adequate portions of protein, fiber, fruits, vegetables and grains.

Sex hormones estrogen and progesterone are produced lesser by the ovaries marking the start of Menopause. This will cause changes in the menstrual cycle as well as other physical changes. Normally, menopause is a gradual process that occurs over several years as your body adjusts to the changes of decreased hormones. However, some cancer treatments will cause a woman to go into sudden menopause. These treatments include surgical removal of the ovaries, radiation or certain kinds of chemotherapy which cause the ovaries to become non-functional.

Common symptoms of menopause are insomnia with night sweats, so just remember that this too will go away. More info about insomnia.

Why Every Girl Needs To Spoil Herself

One of the greatest pleasures in life when you are a girl is being able to pamper yourself. We start as little girls playing dress up and perhaps playing with mom’s high heels and make up and as we get older we get our own stuff to play with.

It is all very well being a professional woman that can compete against the men in her indsutry and leave them for dead, but you should never forget to celebrate and enjoy your femininity. Settig aside special time to indulge yourself is paramount to doing just that.

To kick off your evening of indulgence, kick off your work shoes and head straight to the bathroom to pour yourself a steaming hot bath. Put a whole lot of nice smelly bath stuff into the water and prepare yourself a ridiculous cocktail (umbrella and cherry are optional, but recommended). Sit back and relax in the tub while alternating between sips of aforementioned cocktail and catching up on the latest gossip magazine.

After you have finished your bath and patted yourself dry you should give yourself a deluxe skincare routine. Cleanse your skin thoroughly, tone and moisturize. Massage the moisturizer into your face to get the skin cells stimulated and improve circulation. Then apply the best eye cream you can get your hands on and dab it around the eye area.

Slather your body in a sumptuous body lotion and massage it in around your thighs to minimize cellulite. Complete the medley of delicious smelling lotions and liquids with an eau de parfum spray. It is always good to spray your perfume when you feel like it and not just for special occasions.

Following on from that swan into your bedroom and put on your nicest sleepwear. Then dive bomb underneath the blankets and open up your book for a little light reading and relaxation. Should you not be in the mood for reading, click on a DVD and sit back for a little mindless entertainment.

Now your version of the perfect girl’s night in might be a little different to this, but something akin to the described night is probably as close to heaven as many women can get. This is a low cost and super effective way to wrinkle out your stress and restore your spirits. Planning to have a night like this at least every two weeks is an ideal way to indulge yourself without breaking the bank.

A Young Man Gets Arrested for DWI, Talks to The Human Resources Manager About His Depression, and Gets Inspired to Turn His Life Around and Reclaim His Self Respect

Derek was identified at work as really conservative person who had a superb attendance record. He never went to any of the happy hours immediately after work and it was well-known throughout the office that he was an incredibly religious individual who normally spoke about the pitfalls regarding alcohol abuse and addiction to alcohol in our country.

Try to think of the shock in the workplace when one Monday morning Derek didn’t show up for work and nobody had heard from him. In fact, it wasn’t until approximately 8:30 in the morning that the human resources department received a phone call about Derek from the local city jail.

Derek Goes Out Partying With a Number of His College Dorm Mates

Apparently, Derek went out drinking along with a few of his university pals Saturday night and at some time close to 3:00 Sunday morning, Derek was arrested for “driving while intoxicated”. Considering that his blood alcohol content level (BAC) was very elevated, he had to spend two days in the county jail.

Derek Talks to His Manager and The Human Resources Director

When Derek came to work on Tuesday morning, he instantly informed his superior what had happened and he asked if he might possibly go and talk to the Human Resources manager about his DWI arrest.

When he got to the HR department and met with the manager, he discussed that he had not been intoxicated since his university days and that he was quite humiliated about his DWI arrest. He also stressed the point that he wanted some assistance selecting a professional and successful DUI attorney who would represent his “driving under the influence” case. Stated more precisely, Derek really wanted the Human Resources director to agree that he needed to see a DUI attorney.

The Human Resources manager told Derek that he ought to schedule an appointment with someone within the company employee’s assistance program to discuss any future drinking issue that he might have. The HR director also articulated that he needs to explain his wish to employ a “drunk driving” attorney to represent him regarding his DWI case.

In addition, the Human Resources director told Derek that it was good that he wanted to employ a “driving while intoxicated” lawyer simply because of the difficulties and difficult issues that are linked to a DWI conviction.

The Human Resources director could tell that Derek was apparently upset and humiliated by this total problem. Consequently, he told Derek that while he doesn’t believe that responsible people should ever get behind the steering wheel right after consuming alcohol, regrettably these conditions sometimes come about to very good individuals.

The Human Resources manager then said that since such a predicament can’t be undone, what’s critical is what the particular person does from this moment in time forward. As reported by the Human Resources director, “does the particular person learn from his or her errors or does he or she develop a pattern of alcohol related issues that cause the individual chronic pain and suffering”?

Fortunately, Derek Did Not Have a History of Abusive and Heavy Drinking

Just before completing their discussion, the Human Resources manager informed Derek that it was very positive that he doesn’t have a track record of irresponsible and excessive drinking. Not only this but he hasn’t had an alcohol-related situation since his college days (which was almost 19 years ago). As a result, Derek ought to be able to face his “drunk driving” arrest with embarrassment but also with some assurance knowing that he will confront and work through this obstacle and become a better person in the long run.

Derek thanked the Human Resources manager for his practical and encouraging thoughts and then walked over towards the company employee’s assistance program to discuss his “drunk driving” arrest, his participation in irresponsible drinking drinking over the past weekend, and his wish to employ a “driving while intoxicated” attorney to represent his “drunk driving” case.

After listening to Derek’s “story,” the nurse that was part of the company employee’s assistance program articulated Derek’s immediate “action plan” that he needed to address and follow. First, he would be required to take a DUI class to learn more DUI facts and information. Second, he would also be required to take an alcohol abuse class to address his possible drinking problem. Third, he would have to see a counselor, therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist about his depression.  And finally, it would be a particularily sensible thing to do if he were to meet with a DUI lawyer about his DUI arrest.

Derek Feels a Sense of Relief Knowing That He Will Learn From His Blunder and Become More Sensible

It was clear that Derek was really distressed with the complete “driving while intoxicated” circumstance, but right after talking to the Human Resources director and to the healthcare professional inside the company employee’s assistance program, he felt encouraged that he would actually learn from his mistake and turn out to be even more healthy, more dependable, and an even more grateful person.

Improving One’s Life In Positive Ways

For anybody caught up in the world today, it’s a good bet that he or she will also be caught up in trying to figure out what’s missing from their life. Even those who have attained a level of self-actualization and fulfillment wonder this on occasion. Taking positive steps to improve one’s life, it seems, will also mean continually taking on challenges and opportunities for enrichment. Just have the desire, and anything is possible.

For example, maybe the years have come and gone and the scale is now telling a tale of real woe, in terms of weight that’s been gained over those years. It’s never too late to take on the services of a personal trainer, as a matter of fact. And these men and women can help direct one along a path of physical fitness enrichment that can help complement the inner enrichment that’s undoubtedly been gained.

Many people are caught up in what has traditionally been called the ‘rat race, ‘ and that is a real shame. In reality, unless one has totally gone off the deep end, it’s a sure bet that there’s always a little time for personal enrichment. Take a look outside, at the backyard; turn some of the earth into a garden. Buy a gardening book or take a gardening class.

Unfortunately, too many people have become convinced that the rat race is everything and that there is no time to do much of anything else, including taking care of themselves and their families. However, if they spent even 20 minutes out of the day working on that garden to produce something beautiful, they’d be much happier. The Internet is filled with tips for how to do so, so check those out.

Another good way for people to personally enrich themselves is to consider what they think about food. For anybody who considers it something more than just a means to an end, signing up for private cooking classes and then learning to create beautiful dishes may turn into something extremely enriching. Tune in to any cable food show to see what’s possible with just a little bit of effort and time spent.

It’s a sad fact that more people are spending more effort at working harder to no end than ever before. They probably don’t feel as if they’ve really advanced at all, and this is probably because they haven’t looked at spiritual and physical enrichment activities. It’s recommended that these people just get out there and do something out of the ordinary or non-traditional, to start.

The world today presents literally millions of opportunities for growth, not only spiritually but also physically. In many cases, the activities that one can engage in will work on both spiritual and physical levels. How satisfying might it be to watch a plot of earth turn into a real garden, for example, or a person’s physical shape turn into something else more healthy? The answer is probably clear.

Five Types of Schizophrenia

Scientists aren’t exactly sure what causes schizophrenia yet, but it’s believed to be a combination of physiological and environmental factors. Research shows that family members of a schizophrenic have a ten times’ greater risk of developing the disorder, compared to the general population. Often relatives of schizophrenics will exhibit some similar symptoms, like communication difficulties, strange behavior or paranoia. Brains of schizophrenics have certain noticeable similarities, such as smaller volume, reduced blood flow and neural activity in certain areas and enlarged ventricles at the brain’s center. Psychologists say there are five different types of schizophrenia.

Of all the schizophrenia types, the most prevalent is paranoid schizophrenia, which is found in 40% of all affected patients. Paranoid-type schizophrenia is marked by delusions and hallucinations. Often, people feel they are being watched, spied on or sabotaged. In other cases, schizophrenics may have delusions of grandeur and feel they are here for a special purpose, such as a savior who was sent to warn the people about some impending disaster. Some individuals may be possessed by jealousy or incited with explosive anger suddenly.

Another one of the types of schizophrenia is catatonic-type schizophrenia. A study conducted by the Missouri Department of Health found that the prevalence of this type of schizophrenia has decreased significantly since 1930, but 1 in 1,000 cases are still classified under this category. Catatonic schizophrenia is characterized by long periods of sitting without moving or speaking. Disorganized-type (also sometimes called “hebephrenic schizophrenia”) is a third type that appears as inappropriate emotions and eccentric behavior is conveyed. A person may grimace when being hugged or exhibit no emotion at all. They may be incredibly disorganized and have bizarre social manners.

Often times, the various types of schizophrenia are called “undifferentiated schizophrenia” if the symptoms do not fall under the category of paranoid schizophrenia. Before making a diagnosis, doctors monitor the patient’s symptoms for a period of at least six months. It’s estimated that a third of patients recover from a schizophrenic episode without requiring long-term treatment. However, the most severe cases will require life-long dependency on anti-psychotic medications to enable a longer, healthier life.
