Millions of people all over the world are getting fatter every year. Countries where obesity has never before been a problem are now facing widespread cases of obesity. It’s like no one is exempt from love handles and belly fat. So why is the human population exploding with fat? It’s an easy answer: deficient nutrition. Nutrition is something that we are severely lacking when it comes to what we eat, how much we eat and when we eat. Since fast food drive-thrus are literally everywhere, individual serving sizes are consistently increasing, and even the foods offered on the market are being laced with sugar, fat, and chemical preservatives, it’s not hard to see why we have to buy bigger sized pants every year. Fortunately for us all, the solution to this growing problem is easy to learn if we discover the facts of proper nutrition.

Energy from Food

We are so focused these days on food and the taste of it, and how much of it we get, that we forget that food is merely fuel for us. Food provides the energy to breath, walk across a street, smile, and complete every other daily activity. When we have too much fuel, it gets stored as fat. Fat isn’t our body’s way of getting back at us or its way of being spiteful. Storing fat is simply a natural function of the human body.Fat serves an extremely important purpose: protecting the bones, organs, and muscle as well as keeping the body warm. It also serves as a back up source of energy in case food suddenly becomes unavailable. If we take in more calories than our body can burn off for energy in the short term, then the rest are broken down and stored in the ever expanding fat cells. Since we are eating more and more in our current culture, the fat cells have no choice but to grow larger and larger.

Balance Is Key

Balanced nutrition is the solution. A lot of your favorite foods may not be the best for your body, but you don’t have to give them all up forever. To keep from gaining excessive fat stores, you just need to keep these foods to the occasional treat instead of a daily splurge. You should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and you should even take some nutrition supplements such as vitamins. When you stick to healthy nutrition on a daily basis, your favorite fatty foods will be a great reward from time to time. You can maintain a healthy weight by eating well for an entire week and then splurging one or even two days during that week; provided that you burn off the excess calories with exercise.

Are You Overweight?

If you’re already overweight and you want to lose that weight, proper nutrition along with exercise is the only way to do it. If you eat a balanced diet, eat smaller meals more often (such as six meals per day) and get at least thirty minutes of exercise three to five times per week, that weight will come off in no time. Losing weight does take some consistent work, but there is no easy way around it.It does take work. If exercise scares you, relax because it doesn’t have to be super intense like you see in all the infomercials and commercials all over the TV. A few walks around the block are sufficient to burn enough calories to help you lose weight as long as your nutrition is balanced.
